Start with the actual change
Surrey provides an Online Business Licensing Portal for licence updates. Name, address and ownership changes have different supporting steps; an address change can lead to inspections based on the business type. Confirm the requirements for the actual transaction before assuming the existing licence covers the new operation.
Retain the submitted change, correspondence and issued documents. A form submission and a payment receipt show progress, but they do not automatically prove all required approvals are complete.
Illustrative example: a wholesaler moves its warehouse
A Surrey wholesaler moves to a larger unit and pays a $7,500 refundable lease deposit, $3,200 of moving costs and $11,000 for new shelving. The bookkeeping record separates those amounts instead of posting the total $21,700 as one relocation expense.
The accountant reviews the treatment of the deposit, equipment and costs from their supporting documents. The City licensing file separately records the new location and any required inspection outcome. Completing the accounting entry does not authorize opening at the new site.
Build one move checklist with separate owners
List the licence update, lease documents, insurance changes, utility accounts, supplier addresses, customer communications and accounting-system details. Identify which person confirms each item and retain completion evidence. Payment details sent to customers require particular care so old and new information do not create collection errors.
Take an inventory snapshot where relevant and record goods transferred between locations. Stock should not become a sale merely because it moves to another unit operated by the same business.
Check the first month after the move
Review duplicate rent or utility payments, refunded deposits, supplier credits and invoices still addressed to the previous premises. Allocate costs consistently when a period spans two locations. Keep unusual moving costs identifiable so the owner can understand the ongoing operating result.
Use the Cityβs current published contact route rather than old directions stored in a copied checklist. The licensing office has changed location, and practical administrative details should be checked when action is required. The final file should show both the permission to operate and the financial cost of the move.
